Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other marked cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A high-ranking official commented the incident left him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of foreign heritage in 2020.
